Table Wear

On Christmas Day, from my own experience, I’ve learned that when food is placed directly on the table, elaborate ornaments can feel out of place. After all, the food naturally takes center stage, and it’s all about easy access and enjoyment.

So instead of heavy decorations, here are some simple accessories you might consider placing on the dining table. These can help add a touch of beauty to your setting.

Pretty vases, shakers and decorations.

Serving boards & bowls, decanters and tea lights, candle holders and sticks.

Inspiration Board

While watching a documentary on Siberia, I saw beautiful rock formations the colour of peppermint and gey with white streaks, set against the brown of the surrounding hill. Moments like that remind me how much I love sourcing, arranging, matching colours,. It’s similar to what I enjoyed when cleaning homes: Then I couldn’t choose the decor, but I loved making it look its best.

Here is a quick inspiration board with items that reflect the cool white, grey and peppermint tones set against warm earthy shades.

Remembrance, Broken Pieces & Love

I went to church today — but don’t be put off, I don’t go often. In the past, I went as and when it was needed: for a christening, a blessing, or a school service. Lately, though, I’ve found myself going every now and then for no particular reason other than to worship. I’m not even sure worship is the right word, but it does no harm.

Today’s service focused on remembrance — honouring those lost in war. Before judging, remember that civilians are often caught in the crossfire, and whether we like war or not, we can’t deny the selflessness and bravery of soldiers — most of whom bear no fault for why they are where they are.

As the service centred around remembrance, I found myself thinking of family I’ve recently lost. That made me sad, but it also led me to thinking about love. From there, my thoughts drifted to how broken we can all be, and how love, somehow, brings us back together.

That, in turn, reminded me of the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi, which celebrates mending broken things with care and precious materials. The idea is that the cracks — in pottery, for instance — remain visible, but are filled with gold, silver, or platinum. The object was broken, still useful, and in fact more beautiful through it's changed nature.

Autumn texture & patterns

You know what? I love a good pattern. Sure I can do plain and simple—but there’s just something about how a pattern draws the eye in and adds a richness to things, especially during the colder months where texture and layers add an element of cosy. The pieces below feature a mix of bold patterns - fluid swirls, graphic geometrics and motifs—all designed to create a striking focal point wherever they're styled. While they come with luxe price tags, you’ll easily find budget-friendly alternatives on the high street.

Small Wonders

I caught a whiff of a pumpkin spiced candle while wandering through TK Maxx, and honestly? It smelt so good that the aroma is still clinging to my nostrils and tickling my brain cells as I type. Sadly, until someone invents a ‘scratch-and-sniff’ screen, you’ll just have to imagine it — warm, spicy, a little bit like autumn giving you a hug. I didn’t snap any pics (too busy basking in the scent), but here are some pics in case you fancy a little candle daydream of your own.
